Every year, the American Kennel Club releases its list of the most popular dog breeds in America. While you can expect to see the usual suspects year in and year out, sometimes there are surprises, too. Sometimes a breed becomes highly popular for a few years, then fades away. Here are the current top 7:

Retrievers (Labrador)

It should come as no surprise that Labrador Retrievers are once again the most popular breed in America. These family-friendly, outgoing, intelligent dogs are the perfect companions. They have a great disposition, love to play, are great with kids, and are all around the classic dog that every family dreams of having. Any Northern NJ dog boarding facility loves to take care of retrievers!

German Shepherd

If it seems like German Sheppards are not as prevalent as they once were, think again. They are the second most popular breed in America! These handsome, strong dogs are smart and loyal. They are often seen as great guard dogs, and while that’s true – no one messes with a Garman Sheppard – they are also great family dogs as well, which is why they are so popular.

Retrievers (Golden)

Golden Retrievers are once again one of the most popular dogs for good reason. Not only are they some of the most handsome dogs in the world, they are friendly, loyal, and possess boundless energy. These are family dog through and through, the kind of dogs that make great companions and that make your days a little more fun and full of love. No wonder they are always near the top of these lists for dog boarding NJ services and the American Kennel Club!

Bulldogs

Bulldogs have gotten more popular with each passing year, probably because they have a wonderful temperament, great disposition, and love to be with the family. While it’s true they can have their share of health problems, bulldog owners will be quick to tell you that they make fantastic companions. They’re playful and fun, and that’s why they’re becoming so popular.

Beagles

The beagle is always a popular breed, and with good reason. This smaller breed is intelligent and curious, and also loves to play. Friendly and energetic, these loyal dogs are great with guests and family, and unlike many smaller breeds they are not prone to barking all day long. They make excellent companions, especially for older owners. No wonder they’ve been popular for so many years among those who visit Dog boarding NJ facilities!

French Bulldogs

French bulldogs are making a rapid climb towards the top of this list, in no small part because they are fun, funny, interesting looking, and a joy to have around. People are discovering that this breed’s warm disposition and family-friendly demeanor means they make for great companions. They love to go for walks, but they don’t have the boundless energy of some other breeds.

Yorkshire Terriers

Among smaller breeds, the Yorkshire Terrier is an annual favorite thanks to its friendly nature, love of having fun, and cute appearance. Terriers are playful and love to interact with their owners, and they’re good with families, too, making them a great addition to any household.
